What is a manifest?

A manifest [1] is a spreadsheet (.xlsx format) or CSV (.csv format) file that contains metadata about a research object such as samples, reads, sequence annotations, single-cell, images and barcoding to be submitted to COPO.


What is the difference between a manifest and a checklist?

A checklist [2] defines the fields required in a manifest, which is the actual file containing those fields. Each manifest type has a corresponding checklist and the terms checklist and manifest are sometimes used interchangeably.

For example, the Samples manifest uses the ERC000053 Tree of Life sample checklist.
