A checklist [2] defines the fields required in a manifest, which is the actual file containing those fields. Each manifest type has a corresponding checklist and the terms checklist and manifest are sometimes used interchangeably.
For example, the Samples manifest uses the ERC000053 Tree of Life sample checklist.
